love this.

the way we use models to understand the mind is real similar and the eastern influence really resonates.

and its a solid approach, journal your faulty thinking, aim for a new identity and stack your (small) wins.

im curious now whether your meditation is dualistic or not. for me the non-dualistic part of meditation makes it way easier to shift identity, it's all "bs" anyways.

Can’t say I experience non-dual state in meditation. I experience observer and non-attachment. All happening has a spontaneous quality. If by non-dual you mean a style of practice such as self-inquiry, I don’t use it often but I can see it’s really valuable.

oh wow thats surprising, i bet you would love a non-dual practice. it basically aims at the dividing line between inner and outer world. you start seeing that the observer is yet another thoughtform/concept, separate from raw experience.

in non-dual meditation you try break through the conceptual realm, since it can be another prison.

anyways love what you're doing, ill be back 🤍

p.s. if you're curious here's a 10min example meditation:

Thanks for the link I will check it out. Here is an interview of Shinzen Young about the relationship of the meditation he teaches and non-dual type. I happened to find this last week :

The judging mind can be a hindrance or an opportunity to awaken.

I'm glad you chose to awaken :)

This hit deep!! I came to the realization im over defending myself in the last few days...And that is have emotional intimacy issues...I keep overexplaining things... I really connect to what you wrote in this peice!! I have been all of the three types you mentioned in your article , I was always trying to prove I wasn't a loser and I use humor, poetry, my love of magic and fairytale as body armor...I only let people near me so far! Its interesting because the first thing I wanted to do was justify why im not doing all of those things 🫣 your article came pretty much at the same time I receiving these messages!! It is a really honest well written and insightful peice!! Thank you for sharing your perspectives, your experiences and your insight with us!! Well done!! 💓

Thanks Tara! Looks like there was some synchronicity for you. Isn’t that nice? There are some kind and loving guides in all of us.

Its so nice!!! It is really wonderful when that happens! Its sooo weird to i didnt want to mention this because it sounded creepy to me... but its not creepy its really kind of cool!!

I fell asleep last night reading one of your notes and you popped up in my dream (nothing inappropriate, it was kind of a comical dream)

which almost never happens to me...I usually dream about people i dont recognize...

but when I looked up the meaning of the dream it actually was to do with this topic!! Its really wild...the dream meaning was this:

A desire to merge with my own inspired or idealized self

Someone was talking to me earlier today about how substack is like a merging of consciousness and it really seems to be true!!

The whole experience was really just wild....but fascinating...

Such an honest and courageous piece. Thank you for putting it out!

What I find is it's not enough to annihilate that court room once. It re-emerges at the times when you're most vulnerable. Which means it's time to seek strength to start again.

You've described the process so well, isn't it fascinating how these toxic mental mechanisms are similar in so many people?

Yes Alex, we have to demolish it again and again. It takes willingness and persistence. There is some saying goes like what’s most personal is most universal. We are in some sort of shared human experience.
